Sir Arthur C. Clarke

Writer. A world-known author, Arthur C. Clarke had published more than 70 books. He was a Council Member of the Society of Authors, member of many other scientific and literary organizations, as well as Chancellor of the International Space University. His 13-part "Mysterious World" and "Strange Powers" TV programmes have been seen worldwide. His honours included the Charles A. Lindbergh Award, the Unesco-Kalinga Prize, and an Oscar Nomination for the Screenplay of "2001: A Space Odyssey". For more than 30 years he has lived in Sri Lanka and had been appointed Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, which is the host of the Arthur Clarke Center for Modern Technologies. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.
Sir Arthur C. Clarke died in 2008 in Colombo at the age of 90.
